My Journey to Oaxaca

I've been intending to go to Oaxaca for 2 years now. Maybe I was afraid since I've never left Australia and I only made a half-hearted effort to get there - until last year when I decided to bite the bullet. In September I was on a boat, we were about to go whale watching and I was chatting on msn (via my mobile phone) with a friend in New Mexico and we agreed we would go to Mexico for the "Festival Mundial de la Digna Rabia". Well, Az is a huge fan of Subcomandante Marcos so we planned to go. It required me to save every cent I had from then until December - I even needed to get a passport (which, I did get one). Ivan said he would take me to Atzompa. However, I then hurt my back, my cat got diagnosed with diabetes (that cost me a fortune!) and I had a few family problems so I decided not to go to Mexico. Instead I would start saving again and maybe go for my birthday in June.

Now that all of those expenses are out the way I've started saving my pennies again, I've looked at prices for flights, accommodation in Oaxaca, food, buses etc. I'm on my way again and I'm very excited. it should be great and I can't wait. Today I opened a high interest savings account that I can't withdraw money from until I'm ready to go on my trip. I'll be able to deposit money but not withdraw and I'm so glad too, because I'm one of these people that tends to give money away if it's just sitting there. All I have to do now it let it build to a nice little sum, and decide when the best time to go to Oaxaca will be.

If you've got any advice about visiting Oaxaca, please let me hear it. I'm concerned about the weather because Perth is a hot city and I hear Oaxaca can be quite cold. Actually, I'm thinking Perth and Oaxaca aren't all that different temperature wise. Any ideas where the best places to stay are? Or what about food? Is there something I must try and see? Let me know.
